BC Hydro plans to expand its public charging network in British Columbia from 917 ports at 190 locations to 3,500 ports by 2035, backed by 700 million CAD in funding. The utility currently operates a mix of AC and DC chargers and deployed its first 400 kW charger in early 2026.

On 30 July 2026, Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin announced $10.9 million in federal funding for 22 electric vehicle charging infrastructure and education projects across Canada. The largest award is $5 million to Hydro-Québec for 100 Level 3 fast chargers to densify the Electric Circuit network and cut wait times at peak periods. Other recipients include Ivy Charging Network ($2.08 million for 44 chargers in Ontario), QuantumEV ($573,265 for 74 chargers in Ontario) and CapEV Group ($410,000 for 82 Level 2 chargers in British Columbia and Ontario).

Why it matters: The programme signals continued federal support for public charging densification, with fast charging prioritised to address peak demand and wait times. Charge point operators and equipment suppliers can track future rounds and the emphasis on network expansion at existing sites.
