Funding & capital

New Zealand's National Infrastructure Funding and Financing (NIFFCo) is launching a Request for Proposals for a second round of concessionary loans, making around 21 million dollars available to charge point operators for public charging sites. The first round, announced in March, is delivering 2,574 new charge points through ChargeNet and Meridian Energy partnerships, more than doubling the country's public network. The government aims to reach 10,000 public charge points by 2030, providing roughly one charger for every 40 EVs.

Why it matters: The open procurement process offers CPOs a structured route to secure zero-interest co-investment for portfolio rollouts in New Zealand, with value for money and network contribution as key assessment criteria. Operators can benchmark their bids against the first round's success in unlocking private capital alongside public loans.
