Norway new car registrations reach 98.7 percent battery electric in August 2026 despite subsidy cuts
Norway recorded a 98.7 percent battery electric share of new passenger car registrations in August 2026, the highest ever for any major automotive market, according to data from the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV) reported by electrive.com on 1 September 2026. The milestone came after Norway reduced its VAT exemption threshold for electric vehicles to approximately 32,100 USD at the start of 2026, making EVs less subsidised than in 2025. Belgium, Denmark and Spain also set national EV adoption records in August, while France and Germany continued accelerating from record first half performances.
