Michigan now has more than 560 public fast charging stations and nearly 1,700 Level 2 chargers, a 32% year on year increase in fast chargers, according to a report by Anderson Economic Group published by News 10 Lansing. However, only around 30% of Michigan residents live within a 10 minute drive of a fast charger, compared with over 90% for petrol stations. The state ranks sixth nationally for total fast charging stations but 16th when adjusted for population.
Why it matters: The coverage gap highlights the scale of infrastructure build still required to match fossil fuel convenience, signalling sustained procurement opportunities for CPOs and installers. Population adjusted rankings also suggest that site selection and density planning remain critical for operators targeting equitable access and utilisation rates.
