Who is winning what

JD Power's latest study found Ionna, the charging network backed by eight automakers including GM, Honda and Stellantis, scored highest for overall satisfaction among national DC fast charging networks in the United States, surpassing Tesla's Supercharger network. The study reported the lowest rate of visits where drivers could not charge since tracking began, with improvements in satisfaction around charging costs and safety. Ionna offers chargers delivering up to 400 kW and does not require a dedicated app or subscription, with locations typically featuring food, drink and restroom facilities.

Why it matters: The findings signal that non-Tesla networks are closing the reliability and user experience gap, potentially influencing procurement decisions for CPOs evaluating which hardware and network partnerships deliver the highest customer satisfaction. Ionna's app-free model and amenity-rich sites may set a new benchmark for site design and operational standards in the competitive DC fast charging market.

Rollout pace

Brooklyn firm it's electric will install 600 curbside EV charging posts across New York City under a contract to be announced on Tuesday, expanding from an 88 point pilot operated by FLO. Pedestrian and street safety groups, including Open Plans, argue the permanent infrastructure locks public kerb space into car parking rather than allowing future use for bike lanes, bus lanes or street amenities.

Why it matters: The 600 unit rollout marks a significant municipal procurement win for it's electric and signals accelerating US city investment in on street charging infrastructure, though opposition from advocacy groups may shape future tender requirements or site selection criteria for CPOs and contractors.
