Wales grants decade of business rates relief for EV charging sites through 2036

The Welsh Government announced on 11 August that electric vehicle charging bays and forecourts will receive 100% non-domestic rates relief until 2036. Local authorities will apply the relief using discretionary powers in 2024 to 2025, with backdating available to the start of the financial year, before regulations establish statutory relief from 2027 to 2028 through 2035 to 2036 subject to Senedd approval. Cabinet Minister for Finance Elin Jones said the measure removes a barrier to investment and gives operators certainty to expand infrastructure in underserved areas.
