Tunisia's National Agency for Energy Management and Tunisie Autoroutes have begun their first solar power project at Oued Zarga station in Béja governorate, following a partnership signed on 13 July. The initial installation will cover 5 to 6 hectares and aims to meet a significant share of the motorway operator's electricity needs, with plans to replicate the model across other motorway sites. The partnership also includes developing a national network of electric vehicle charging stations along Tunisia's motorways.

Why it matters: The project signals Tunisia's commitment to building EV charging infrastructure on its motorway network, creating procurement opportunities for charging equipment suppliers and installation contractors. The combination of solar generation and charging stations offers a template for integrated renewable energy and EV infrastructure deployment across North Africa.
