Rollout pace

Maruti Suzuki will add smaller electric vehicles to its India portfolio once its charging network is sufficiently developed, managing director Hisashi Takeuchi told the company's annual general meeting. The carmaker has partnered with 13 charge point operators and installed over 2,000 exclusive charging points across more than 1,100 cities, with plans for chargers 5 to 10 kilometres apart in the top 100 cities and a target of over 100,000 charging points across India by the end of the decade. Maruti currently sells only the e Vitara EV in India and holds about 90 per cent of India's EV export market, shipping to nearly 120 countries.

Why it matters: A major OEM is explicitly linking product launches to charging infrastructure readiness, signalling sustained demand for CPO partnerships and deployment contracts across Indian cities and highways. Maruti's 100,000 point target by 2030 represents significant procurement opportunity for the 13 existing partners and potential new entrants in India's charging sector.

Mobility service provider Green SM has signed a five year lease for 35,400 square metres of parking space in Greater Noida, including 1,050 basement car parks and space for five containerised charging stations, with a total rental outlay of ₹15.5 crore. The monthly rent starts at ₹23.38 lakh in the first year with 5 per cent annual escalation, and the firm has paid ₹1.16 crore as security deposit. Green SM, the exclusive fleet operator for VinFast Group, launched its cab service in Delhi NCR in June this year.

Why it matters: The deal demonstrates how fleet operators are securing large scale charging infrastructure through long term property leases, converting basement parking into dedicated EV hubs. It signals growing demand for containerised charging solutions in commercial real estate as mobility providers scale operations in Indian metro regions.
