Gadkari asks Maharashtra to cut EV charging tariff to Rs 5 per unit during daytime hours

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari asked the Maharashtra government to reduce electricity charges at EV charging stations to Rs 5 per unit between 8 am and 6 pm, and said he has asked the Union Ministry of Power to lower the rate on national highway chargers, currently Rs 22 per unit. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis accepted the request and said the state would bring in processes to reduce per-unit charges, citing surplus solar energy and a renewable share of 52 per cent of the state's power mix by 2030 and 65 per cent by 2035. The comments came at the inauguration of six EKA Mobility plants, where Fadnavis also asked the company to deploy 50,000 electric buses in three years and Gadkari urged less reliance on China for electric components, which he put at 30 to 40 per cent of imports.

Why it matters

A Rs 5 daytime tariff in Maharashtra, if enacted, would sharply change operating margins and pricing for CPOs, and could shift charging demand towards solar hours. A possible cut to the Rs 22 national highway rate and a 50,000 bus ambition also point to future demand for depot and corridor charging, though neither commitment has yet been set out in a formal policy.

Andhra Pradesh EV drivers face patchy charging coverage despite rising electric car uptake

A report on Andhra Pradesh's charging network describes how 34-year-old Raju Vegesna, travelling from Nellore to Tirupati in his new electric car, feared the battery would run out and avoided using the air conditioning. He had agreed to the trip only after a quick online search showed nearly a dozen EV charging stations along the route. The excerpt points to a gap between growing EV ownership and dependable public charging in the state.

Why it matters

Range anxiety on popular pilgrimage and intercity routes shows that listed chargers do not guarantee confidence, so reliability and visible availability matter as much as site count. For CPOs and funders, corridor coverage in Andhra Pradesh looks like an open opportunity, and for procurement it favours uptime and clear real-time status data.

Indian Bank Targets Rs 100 Crore in EV Charging Loans This Year and Rs 250 Crore Next Year

Indian Bank has launched IND Green Charge, a financing scheme for public, captive and fleet EV charging stations under standalone and franchise models, according to managing director and CEO Binod Kumar, who spoke to PTI. The bank will offer loans of up to Rs 10 crore over a maximum tenure of 8 years, with lending targets of Rs 100 crore for the remaining five months of the current financial year and Rs 250 crore for FY27. Kumar said the bank's analysis across AC, DC and high-capacity DC charging, including stress testing under different utilisation scenarios, found the funding commercially viable.

Why it matters

Charge point operators and fleet operators seeking debt for standalone or franchise sites now have a dedicated lender option with defined ticket sizes and tenures. Proposals in smaller cities and semi-urban areas will be assessed on local demand, location, projected utilisation and repayment capacity, so developers should prepare utilisation evidence for those sites.

Guide compares 60 kW, 120 kW and 350 kW DC fast chargers for Indian EV owners

A consumer guide examines the three DC fast-charging tiers now found at Indian public stations run by Tata Power, Jio-bp, ChargeZone, Statiq and others. It says a 350 kW charger promises faster charging than a 60 kW unit, but many vehicles cannot use the full capacity, and drivers may pay higher prices at ultra-fast sites without a meaningful time saving. The charging times quoted are theoretical calculations at constant rated power, and real sessions take longer depending on the vehicle.

Why it matters

Where vehicles cannot draw the full rated power, the case for 350 kW hardware in India needs careful testing against the local fleet, since customers may not value or pay for speed they cannot use. Procurement teams should weigh charger power ratings against vehicle compatibility and tariff positioning when specifying sites.

Madurai to prepare five-year City EV Implementation Plan covering charging locations and grid impact

Madurai city corporation, with Guidance Tamil Nadu and ITDP India, held a one-day workshop for the city-level EV Cell on Saturday, attended by nearly 60 officials from government departments, educational institutions and private associations. The five-year plan will identify suitable charging station locations, assess the grid impact of rising EV adoption and prioritise projects with clear timelines and departmental responsibilities. Guidance Tamil Nadu's Executive Director said the state has attracted investments worth Rs 30,000 crore and generated 1.5 lakh jobs through its EV ecosystem, as reported by the Times of India.

Why it matters

A formal city plan that sets out land, grid requirements and departmental ownership could shape where and how public charging tenders appear in Madurai. CPOs and suppliers should engage early with the EV Cell, as site identification and data inputs are still being defined.

eNEG Mobility develops Rs 4.5 lakh electric taxi with battery subscription model for Indian fleets

Ahmedabad-based startup eNEG Mobility is developing a five-seat electric mini-SUV taxi with a targeted price of Rs 4.5 lakh excluding the battery, or a proposed on-road price of Rs 6.49 lakh with the battery. It is targeting a 300 to 320 km range from a 30 to 32 kWh LFP battery, a 50 kW motor, and DC fast charging of about 27 minutes from 10% to 80%. The company says these are development targets and final specifications may change before commercial introduction.

Why it matters

A battery subscription model that cuts upfront vehicle cost could widen EV uptake among Indian shared mobility fleet operators, creating future demand for depot and fast charging. Charging operators should note that the figures are unconfirmed targets and the vehicle is not yet commercially available.

Amazon to deploy 3,000 Tata Motors electric trucks across its India transport network

Amazon is deploying 3,000 Tata Motors electric trucks in India, extending its fleet electrification beyond last-mile delivery into middle-mile freight between facilities, within cities and along freight corridors. The rollout begins in Delhi during the festive season, when freight volumes peak, starting with light and medium-duty trucks such as the Tata Ultra E.7 before moving to major national highways. Carrier partners will own and operate the vehicles, and Amazon says it already has more than 15,000 electric vehicles running across 500-plus cities in India, as reported by Charles Morris on 30 October 2026.

Why it matters

Dedicated charging hubs, including those being developed with provider Yahhvi, signal demand for DC fast charging at freight depots and along highway corridors, with carrier partners rather than Amazon owning the vehicles. For CPOs and procurement teams, this points to opportunities in depot and corridor charging for third-party fleet operators in India.

Tata Motors Ranks Second in India's October Passenger Vehicle Registrations and Keeps Electric Lead

Tata Motors registered 73,002 passenger vehicles in India in October 2026, placing second behind Maruti Suzuki's 2,11,444 units and ahead of Mahindra (64,248) and Hyundai Motor India (57,883), according to VAHAN data shared by the company. Tata also retained its lead in electric passenger vehicles with 14,552 registrations, ahead of Mahindra's 8,472, in a month that included the Navratri and Dussehra buying period. The 14 manufacturers in the shared data together registered 4,98,208 units, though the table does not cover all manufacturers and records remain subject to updates.

Why it matters

The strong electric figures indicate sustained demand for EVs among Indian buyers during festive months, which matters for charging network planning and site prioritisation. Charge point operators should note that registrations are subject to revision, so forecasts should be built on updated VAHAN data rather than this initial snapshot.

JSW MG Motor India reports 8,013 wholesale units in October, up 25% year on year

JSW MG Motor India recorded wholesale sales of 8,013 units in October 2026, up 25% from 6,397 units in October 2025. Volumes were almost flat month on month, down five units (0.06%) from 8,018 in September, while the year on year growth rate rose from 19% in September to 25%. The company credited customer response to the MG Hector Tomahawk EV and the Windsor Indulge Edition, with deliveries of both gaining momentum across India.

Why it matters

Steady monthly volumes of around 8,000 units, with new EV models such as the Hector Tomahawk EV now reaching customers, point to a growing base of vehicles needing charging access in India. CPOs and procurement teams should treat this as a demand signal for charger deployment, though the release gives no EV only split.

Bijliride reports Rs 45.6 crore ARR from EV rental business with 20 franchises and over 6,000 vehicles

Indian electric mobility platform Bijliride has reported Annual Recurring Revenue of Rs 45.6 crore, based on monthly rental revenue of Rs 3.8 crore including its franchise network, with an operational EBITDA margin of 30%. The company runs 20 franchises generating Rs 1 crore in monthly revenue for franchise partners, and a fleet of over 6,000 electric vehicles in last-mile logistics. Bijliride plans to consolidate in northern India, focusing on vehicles for delivery executives, and says its asset-light model prioritises unit economics over cash-led growth.

Why it matters

A fleet of this size in last-mile delivery points to concentrated, recurring charging demand that depends on where and how rental operators site their vehicles. CPOs and charging suppliers in northern India may find franchise operators a useful route to fleet charging partnerships.

Indian electric two wheeler sales hit a record 223,847 units in October, with TVS Motor passing 60,000

A report on India's electric two wheeler market says 209 manufacturers delivered 223,847 electric scooters, motorcycles and mopeds in October, up 48% year on year from 150,891 units and up 7% on September's 208,705. TVS Motor Co sold 60,429 units, the first Indian electric two wheeler maker to pass 60,000 in a month, while Bajaj Auto, Hero Vida, Greaves Electric Mobility and River Mobility also posted record retail sales. October's volume was 10% of the 2.31 million two wheelers sold in India that month, and it was the third month this year above 200,000 units, after July (205,880) and September.

Why it matters

Monthly volumes that now hold about a tenth of India's two wheeler market point to a fast growing base of small electric vehicles needing home, workplace and public charging or battery swapping. CPOs and procurement teams should treat light vehicle demand as a core planning case rather than a niche one.

Tata Motors completes initial settlement of Iveco acquisition with 89.42% stake as Indian EV makers expand capacity

In its weekly wrap for October 26 to November 1, the publication reports that Tata Motors completed the initial settlement of its voluntary tender offer for Italian commercial vehicle maker Iveco Group on October 30, securing an 89.42% equity stake. Ather Energy, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor and Hero MotoCorp outlined plans to expand electric two-wheeler production as demand continued to exceed available capacity, while a Boston Consulting Group report highlighted that India's electric two-wheeler market is concentrated among five manufacturers. The wrap also noted Hyundai's Bayon SUV launch at Rs 9.99 lakh, record October sales at Maruti Suzuki and reports of a new Tata midsize electric SUV codenamed Kuno.

Why it matters

Demand for electric two-wheelers still outstripping supply, with the four largest makers adding capacity, points to a growing fleet that will need charging and swapping infrastructure, though the market's concentration among five manufacturers means partnership decisions will sit with a small group of OEMs. Tata's consolidation of Iveco also signals a larger commercial vehicle player whose electrification plans may shape future depot charging demand.

Tata Motors completes initial settlement of takeover offer for Iveco Group and holds about 89.42%

On 30 October, Tata Motors and Iveco Group announced completion of the initial settlement of the takeover offer first announced in July 2025. Tata Motors now holds approximately 89.42% of Iveco Group's share capital, excluding treasury shares, after acquiring more than 238 million shares at €14.40 each, for roughly €3.43 billion. The deal covers Iveco's commercial vehicle and powertrain businesses, including Iveco, Iveco Bus, Heuliez and FPT Industrial, but excludes Defence, which is covered by a separate transaction with Leonardo.

Why it matters

Iveco's truck and bus lines, including Iveco Bus and Heuliez, now sit under a new parent, which could change fleet electrification plans and supplier relationships. CPOs and depot charging bidders serving European commercial fleets should watch for shifts in procurement contacts and product roadmaps.

India targets 5 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen capacity by 2030

India aims to build 5 million metric tonnes of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030, according to an official factsheet released on Wednesday. The National Green Hydrogen Mission is expected to cut cumulative fossil fuel imports by about Rs 1 lakh crore, mobilise over Rs 8 lakh crore in investment, create more than 6 lakh jobs and avert nearly 50 million tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. Six states (Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal) have notified dedicated policies, while Haryana, Punjab, Bihar and Kerala are drafting theirs.

Why it matters

Hydrogen is a competing and complementary decarbonisation route, so state level policy and investment flows could shape where clean energy capital and grid and renewable capacity are directed in India. CPOs and suppliers active there should watch how these frameworks interact with transport and charging infrastructure priorities.

India's growth stays strong despite West Asia crisis, Modi says country will add 500 GW of renewables in 10 to 11 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India's economic growth remains high despite the ongoing West Asia crisis, which disrupted energy supplies worldwide earlier this year. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, he said non-fossil fuel capacity already exceeds 300 GW and that around 500 GW of renewable capacity will be added over the next 10 to 11 years, with confidence in reaching the 500 GW target by 2030. He also said investment opportunities worth over Rs 20 lakh crore will emerge in the renewable sector by the end of the decade.

Why it matters

The stated pipeline and Rs 20 lakh crore investment opportunity point to sustained government backing for renewables and grid connection, though the speech sets targets rather than detailing tenders or timelines for charging infrastructure. Procurement and CPO teams should watch for the policy instruments that follow.

Chhattisgarh seeks ₹5.6 lakh crore of energy investment and targets 15,000 MW of green capacity by 2030

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai told the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 in New Delhi that the state wants ₹5.60 lakh crore over five years, including ₹1.33 lakh crore for 23,923 MW of renewable projects and about ₹3.27 lakh crore for thermal expansion, according to an official statement. The state aims to lift green energy's share of electricity demand from 15% to more than 45% by 2030, and has identified 10 pumped storage projects totalling 12,300 MW (about ₹65,000 crore) alongside plans for 10,000 MWh of battery storage. Chhattisgarh currently has more than 28,000 MW of coal based thermal capacity.

Why it matters

A cleaner grid mix and large storage pipeline in a coal heavy state could shape future power cost and availability for charging operators, though the report does not mention EV charging directly. Procurement teams should watch how the renewable and storage opportunities turn into tenders.

Priti Adani says Adani Group has pledged over $100 billion to energy transition and infrastructure

Speaking at The World Symposium in Varanasi on 2 November, Adani Foundation Chairperson Priti Adani said the Adani Group has pledged over $100 billion towards energy transition and infrastructure. She cited the world's largest renewable energy park at Khavda in Gujarat as an example, and said the group's nation-building should be guided by the principle of Dharma. She also noted a commitment of more than $10 million to the Bharat Knowledge Graph, which supports 14 doctoral scholars.

Why it matters

The pledge is a headline figure with no breakdown, and the excerpt gives no EV charging allocation or timeline, so it signals scale of capital rather than confirmed charging projects. Procurement teams and CPOs in India should treat it as context on grid and renewable supply, not as a funded charging pipeline.
