Indian Bank Targets Rs 100 Crore in EV Charging Loans This Year and Rs 250 Crore Next Year

Indian Bank has launched IND Green Charge, a financing scheme for public, captive and fleet EV charging stations under standalone and franchise models, according to managing director and CEO Binod Kumar, who spoke to PTI. The bank will offer loans of up to Rs 10 crore over a maximum tenure of 8 years, with lending targets of Rs 100 crore for the remaining five months of the current financial year and Rs 250 crore for FY27. Kumar said the bank's analysis across AC, DC and high-capacity DC charging, including stress testing under different utilisation scenarios, found the funding commercially viable.

Why it matters

Charge point operators and fleet operators seeking debt for standalone or franchise sites now have a dedicated lender option with defined ticket sizes and tenures. Proposals in smaller cities and semi-urban areas will be assessed on local demand, location, projected utilisation and repayment capacity, so developers should prepare utilisation evidence for those sites.

Guide compares 60 kW, 120 kW and 350 kW DC fast chargers for Indian EV owners

A consumer guide examines the three DC fast-charging tiers now found at Indian public stations run by Tata Power, Jio-bp, ChargeZone, Statiq and others. It says a 350 kW charger promises faster charging than a 60 kW unit, but many vehicles cannot use the full capacity, and drivers may pay higher prices at ultra-fast sites without a meaningful time saving. The charging times quoted are theoretical calculations at constant rated power, and real sessions take longer depending on the vehicle.

Why it matters

Where vehicles cannot draw the full rated power, the case for 350 kW hardware in India needs careful testing against the local fleet, since customers may not value or pay for speed they cannot use. Procurement teams should weigh charger power ratings against vehicle compatibility and tariff positioning when specifying sites.

Solar powered EV charging in Andhra Pradesh still at an early stage despite favourable conditions

A report on Nellore says Andhra Pradesh has abundant sunshine, a growing renewable energy ecosystem and rising interest in electric mobility, but solar powered charging remains nascent. Stations use rooftop or ground mounted solar panels with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to smooth fluctuations, drawing from the grid only when necessary. The article notes that public charging infrastructure in the state remains sporadic despite growing EV sales and strong government backing, and that Convergence Energy Services Ltd. (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL), was the first to deploy an integrated solar powered charging station in India.

Why it matters

Lower electricity costs at solar and BESS equipped sites could let charge point operators pass savings on to drivers, which makes Andhra Pradesh a potential market for integrated solar plus storage charging projects. The patchy public network, particularly for intercity travel, points to unmet demand for developers and funders.

Andhra Pradesh EV drivers face patchy charging coverage despite rising electric car uptake

A report on Andhra Pradesh's charging network describes how 34-year-old Raju Vegesna, travelling from Nellore to Tirupati in his new electric car, feared the battery would run out and avoided using the air conditioning. He had agreed to the trip only after a quick online search showed nearly a dozen EV charging stations along the route. The excerpt points to a gap between growing EV ownership and dependable public charging in the state.

Why it matters

Range anxiety on popular pilgrimage and intercity routes shows that listed chargers do not guarantee confidence, so reliability and visible availability matter as much as site count. For CPOs and funders, corridor coverage in Andhra Pradesh looks like an open opportunity, and for procurement it favours uptime and clear real-time status data.

The Union Government told the Rajya Sabha on 7 August that Jammu and Kashmir has 295 electric vehicle charging stations, part of a national total of 52,718 installations as of 29 July 2026. Neighbouring Ladakh has 25 charging points. The Centre does not maintain a centralised record distinguishing fast charging from slow charging facilities, and the establishment of EV charging stations has been de licensed under Ministry of Power guidelines issued on 17 September 2024, allowing private entities to install infrastructure.

Why it matters

The de licensing policy and absence of a central fast versus slow charging register signal an open but data light procurement environment for CPOs expanding in Indian Union Territories. Jammu and Kashmir's 295 points offer a baseline for operators assessing regional rollout pace and site density in emerging markets.

Servotech COO says Q1 EV charger revenue drop to 2.5 percent was timing driven, expects policy led rebound

Servotech Renewables' Chief Operating Officer Prem Prakash told an August 2026 interview that EV chargers fell from roughly 42 to 43 percent of revenue in Q4 FY26 to about 2.5 percent in Q1 FY27, while solar products rose to 94.8 percent from around 51 percent. He attributed the shift to project execution timelines rather than strategy, saying EV charger revenue fluctuates with central and state government policies and demand cycles. The firm is expanding into batteries, energy storage and Dubai as part of a wider clean energy push.

Why it matters

Sharp quarterly swings in charger revenue highlight how dependent Indian suppliers remain on government procurement cycles and project phasing. Buyers and funders tracking Servotech's pipeline should watch for policy announcements that could reverse the Q1 mix in coming quarters.

Tata Motors reportedly developing Kuno mid-size electric SUV for 2027 to 2028 launch to rival MG Windsor

According to people familiar with the programme, Tata Motors is developing a ground-up, roughly 4.3-metre mid-size SUV codenamed Kuno, scheduled for introduction in 2027 to 2028 and likely to be built at Sanand in Gujarat. Planned annual production is around 80,000 to 100,000 units, which the report says is a capacity plan and not a first-year sales forecast. The commercial name, final specifications and pricing have not been disclosed, and Tata is preparing capacity additions at Sanand, which includes the former Ford plant.

Why it matters

A further mid-size EV line from Tata, alongside the new-generation Nexon, Curvv and Sierra, points to a larger family-oriented EV parc in India from 2027 to 2028, which could support longer-term charging demand planning. Planned volumes of 80,000 to 100,000 units a year at Sanand suggest the scale of vehicle supply CPOs and site hosts may need to anticipate, though timing and specifications remain unconfirmed.

Pune electric bus fire destroys vehicle after dashboard smoke forces evacuation of 20 passengers

A Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation electric Shivai bus (registration MH 12 VF 4035) was completely destroyed by fire near Swargate in Pune on Monday morning after the driver noticed smoke and a burning smell from the dashboard. All 20 passengers on board were evacuated safely with no injuries reported, though the bus had been carrying 37 passengers on its journey from Solapur before 17 alighted at Hadapsar. Separate technical inspections have been launched by the transport corporation and the private maintenance contractor, with a short circuit cited as one possible cause though officials have not conclusively established the reason.

Why it matters

The incident highlights potential gaps in safety protocols and maintenance standards for electric bus fleets operated under public transport contracts in India. For operators and maintenance providers, the destruction of onboard safety equipment including CCTV cameras and cut point systems during the fire raises questions about fire suppression capabilities and inspection regimes that procurement authorities may now scrutinise in future tenders.

Mahindra Electric hits 8,000 unit monthly ceiling as demand outstrips supply

Mahindra Electric Automobile has reached its structural capacity of 8,000 units per month and cannot meet demand, Managing Director Velusamy R told Autocar Professional's EV Conclave in Delhi on Tuesday. Demand is growing in Tier 3 and 4 cities, with dealers now selling 10 vehicles each, but supply constraints linked to aluminium shortages from the West Asia conflict and steel and copper bottlenecks will persist until Q3 of FY27, with additional capacity arriving from Q4. Buyers are switching for 500 km range and the cost gap between Rs 3,500 for petrol and Rs 500 to charge.

Why it matters

The 8,000 unit monthly cap signals infrastructure and component supply chains are now the binding constraint on India's EV rollout, not consumer appetite. CPOs and charging network planners should anticipate accelerated deployment timelines from Q4 FY27 as Mahindra and peers add capacity to meet pent up demand in lower tier cities.

Home battery addition in India extends solar payback from 3.3 years to over nine, Ember analysis finds

A study by think tank Ember shows that pairing a 5 kilowatt hour battery with a typical 3 kilowatt rooftop solar system in India would push payback periods from 3.3 years to more than nine years, despite cutting daytime grid exports by up to 90%. After a 78,000 rupee subsidy, a solar only system costs 87,000 rupees and pays for itself in 3.3 years under current net metering rules, making storage financially unattractive for households. India had 30.7 gigawatts of rooftop solar by July, representing 19% of the country's 165 gigawatt installed solar capacity, with growth accelerating after the PM Surya Ghar initiative launched in 2024.

Why it matters

The economics signal that Indian policy may need adjustment if battery storage is to become viable for residential solar customers, which matters for grid operators planning daytime export management and for installers gauging demand for bundled solar and storage offerings. The nine year payback also shapes procurement decisions by developers and utilities considering residential storage programmes or tariff reforms.
