Delhi adds 50 electric buses and reaches 5,088 e-buses, largest public fleet in India

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 50 new electric buses on Thursday, bringing Delhi's public transport fleet to around 6,840 buses, of which 5,088 are electric and 1,752 run on CNG. The government plans to expand the total fleet to around 14,000 buses by 2028 to 2029. Two new public EV charging stations opened at Hasanpur and Ghazipur, and a new Automated Testing Station at Tehkhand Depot can now test up to 72,000 vehicles a year.
Why it matters: Delhi's 5,088 unit electric bus fleet is now the largest in India and signals sustained demand for depot charging infrastructure and maintenance capacity as the city targets 14,000 buses within five years.
