India reports 67,657 EV chargers installed and 16.72 lakh vehicles sold under FAME-II scheme

India's Ministry of Heavy Industries announced that 67,657 EV chargers are now installed across states and union territories as of 7 August 2026, including 1,139 battery swapping station chargers. Under the FAME-II scheme, 16.72 lakh electric vehicles have been sold as of June 2026, with an additional 5,299 electric buses deployed by 31 July 2026. The ministry also noted that GST on EVs and charging equipment has been reduced to 5 per cent, while the PM E-DRIVE scheme has supported 26.59 lakh EV sales and the PLI scheme for auto components has backed 21.30 lakh units as of March 2026.
