Telangana rises from 25th to first in India EV readiness ranking as Delhi falls to 17th

Telangana topped the HERE and SBD EV Index 2026, climbing from 25th place in 2025, while Delhi dropped from fourth to 17th, according to a survey assessing 34 Indian states and union territories. The index scores regions on four equally weighted measures: public chargers relative to road length, average charger power, EV share of the vehicle fleet, and the ratio of EVs to public charging infrastructure, with each measure worth up to 25 points. India added more than 31,500 public charging points since the previous index, representing more than a fourfold increase.

Why it matters: The ranking highlights which Indian states are building charging infrastructure at pace and signals where CPOs may find supportive policy environments or face stiffer competition. Delhi's sharp fall suggests procurement teams should reassess regional deployment priorities as smaller states accelerate network rollout.
