India counts 52,718 public EV charging stations as roadside support and service gaps slow mass adoption

India's public EV charging network grew from 29,151 stations in December 2025 to 52,718 by July 2026, with 16,561 fast chargers for cars, according to the Ministry of Heavy Industries. The government allocated Rs. 2,000 crore under the PM E-DRIVE scheme for public charging infrastructure. ReadyAssist's Chief Marketing Officer highlighted that roadside assistance, charging reliability and trained service support remain critical gaps for EV owners, particularly outside major cities.
Why it matters: Procurement teams and charge point operators expanding into India's tier two and tier three cities must account for service infrastructure alongside hardware deployment. The rapid station rollout and government funding signal growing tender opportunities, but long term network viability will depend on integrated roadside and maintenance support that buyers are beginning to specify.
