Sona wins Rs 1,730 crore in EV two-wheeler orders as BEV revenue share hits 51%
By Eve
Indian automotive component supplier Sona secured Rs 1,730 crore in electric two-wheeler contracts during Q2, including Rs 1,250 crore for traction motors, Rs 380 crore for integrated motor controllers and Rs 100 crore for rear radar sensors. The company's battery electric vehicle revenues surged 129% year on year, lifting BEV revenue share to 51% of total sales from 35% in FY26, while overall quarterly revenue rose 35% to Rs 1,550 crore. The orders reflect growing adoption of advanced driver-assistance hardware in two-wheelers, with demand concentrated in traction motors, suspension motors and differential assemblies.
Why it matters
The shift of advanced safety sensors and motor systems to mass-market two-wheelers signals a major expansion in EV component procurement beyond passenger cars, opening new supply opportunities. Sona's BEV revenue crossing 50% of total sales demonstrates how rapidly electric mobility is reshaping automotive supplier business models in India.

HESS Belgium supports around 330 Exqui.City buses across Europe and builds retrofit business
HESS Belgium has been set up as a service and expertise centre, bringing together former Van Hool employees after the manufacturer's bankruptcy. Its first pillar is continued support for around 330 Exqui.City buses in operation across Europe, with interventions in Norway, Sweden, France and other countries. The second pillar is local specialised maintenance, including major repairs such as chassis work and software updates, and a third pillar is retrofits, according to an interview with Geert Van Hecke, HESS Key Account Manager International and Manager HESS Belgium.
Why it matters
Operators running Exqui.City fleets now have a named route for ongoing support and specialist maintenance after Van Hool's bankruptcy, which reduces stranded asset risk. The move into retrofits also points to another option for fleet owners weighing life extension against new vehicle purchases.
Waymo selects Toyota bZ4X as next robotaxi, with a Japan test fleet due in 2027
Toyota will build a custom version of the electric bZ4X SUV at its Takaoka plant in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, with the Waymo Driver installed and integrated on the same site rather than retrofitted elsewhere. A test fleet will begin operating in Japan in 2027 to test and validate the vehicles, with the UK and other Waymo markets to follow later and no dates given. It is the first vehicle to emerge from the partnership announced in April 2025, and Waymo did not share sensor specifications, unit volumes or per vehicle costs.
Why it matters
A Japanese built robotaxi with factory integrated autonomy points to a future fleet charging load in Tokyo and later the UK, though without volumes or dates it is too early to size depot demand. CPOs and depot developers should treat it as a signal for fleet focused charging, not yet a firm pipeline.
EKA Mobility plans ₹2,000 crore capex as bus order book hits $2 billion
EKA Mobility is planning ₹2,000 crore in capital expenditure over the next three years to scale electric bus manufacturing and enter heavy trucks and six seater vehicles, chairman Sudhir Mehta told The Hindu BusinessLine. The company reports an order book for 11,000 buses valued at nearly $2 billion including long term servicing, and is targeting ₹2,000 crore in revenue for FY27, up from approximately ₹600 crore last year. Vehicle volumes increased 13.4 times to 1,786 units during April to September, from 133 units in the year earlier period.
Why it matters
The 11,000 bus order book represents significant depot and charging infrastructure demand, with EKA expecting 80 new depots over 18 months to add to 20 operational sites. Charging infrastructure is provided by concessionaires operating the buses under 12 year service contracts, creating sustained procurement opportunities tied to depot readiness timelines.
