PM E-DRIVE scheme backs 26.5 lakh EV sales and 52,700 chargers across India

By Eve

India's Ministry of Heavy Industries told Parliament on 7 August that the PM E-DRIVE scheme has supported the sale of 26,54,172 electric vehicles as of 22 July, while 52,718 public EV charging stations had been installed nationwide by 29 July. Running from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2028, the scheme has also allocated 14,000 electric buses and 7,250 EV chargers, with a focus on demand incentives, State Transport Undertaking bus deployment, public charging infrastructure including rural areas, and vehicle testing upgrades.

Why it matters

The figures confirm a large scale rollout of public charging points under central government backing, signalling sustained procurement opportunities for charge point operators and equipment suppliers targeting both urban and rural tenders. The parallel allocation of thousands of buses and chargers points to coordinated fleet and infrastructure contracts over the next four years.

Seattle opens applications for 200 curbside Level 2 chargers targeting apartment areas by 2030

Seattle City Light is accepting resident applications for up to 200 new curbside Level 2 EV chargers to be installed from fall 2027 through 2030, prioritising multifamily housing areas with limited existing charging. The city will review applications and select locations in batches of 40 to 50 sites, with design and permitting starting spring 2027 and each site requiring approximately two weeks of construction. Seattle already operates 58 chargers from an earlier pilot programme.

Why it matters

The resident led application process and phased procurement model offers a replicable framework for cities targeting underserved multifamily housing, with clear timelines for design, permitting and installation that CPOs and contractors can plan around. The batch selection approach creates predictable tender windows for equipment suppliers and installation firms through to 2030.
