EVgo and General Motors have launched a new flagship EV charging station in Detroit, United States, marking an expansion of their charging infrastructure partnership. The companies expect to deploy over 100 charging stalls at the site by the end of 2026.

EVgo has opened a flagship charging station at a Meijer store in metropolitan Detroit, bringing its total flagship stalls nationwide to over 40, with plans to exceed 100 sites by the end of 2026. The Detroit site features 12 CCS and NACS stalls with 350kW charging under an overhead canopy, and flagship stations will average up to 20 stalls per site. EVgo has built nearly 2,400 stalls across 32 states with GM support, and the expansion targets California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Texas.

A YouTube creator drove a Chevrolet Blazer EV from Bentonville, Arkansas, to Oklahoma City and back using exclusively Walmart EV charging stations, with eight locations available along the route. The oldest charger had been open for only nine weeks at the time of the test. The family chose Walmart over Tesla Supercharging for access to amenities including bathrooms, food, baby supplies and air conditioned indoor space during charging stops.

Why it matters: The successful road trip demonstrates that Walmart's fast growing non Tesla charging network is already viable for long distance travel, offering CPOs a model that combines charging infrastructure with retail amenities.
