EVgo opens Detroit flagship as part of 100 site nationwide fast charging rollout by end 2026

By Eve

EVgo has opened a flagship charging station at a Meijer store in metropolitan Detroit, bringing its total flagship stalls nationwide to over 40, with plans to exceed 100 sites by the end of 2026. The Detroit site features 12 CCS and NACS stalls with 350kW charging under an overhead canopy, and flagship stations will average up to 20 stalls per site. EVgo has built nearly 2,400 stalls across 32 states with GM support, and the expansion targets California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Texas.

Why it matters

The 100 site flagship programme signals a shift to larger, amenity rich charging hubs averaging 20 stalls, creating procurement opportunities for canopy, electrical and site works contractors. Michigan EV numbers rising sixfold from 2021 to 2025 underscores the infrastructure demand driving this rollout velocity across six states.

Seattle opens applications for 200 curbside Level 2 chargers targeting apartment areas by 2030

Seattle City Light is accepting resident applications for up to 200 new curbside Level 2 EV chargers to be installed from fall 2027 through 2030, prioritising multifamily housing areas with limited existing charging. The city will review applications and select locations in batches of 40 to 50 sites, with design and permitting starting spring 2027 and each site requiring approximately two weeks of construction. Seattle already operates 58 chargers from an earlier pilot programme.

Why it matters

The resident led application process and phased procurement model offers a replicable framework for cities targeting underserved multifamily housing, with clear timelines for design, permitting and installation that CPOs and contractors can plan around. The batch selection approach creates predictable tender windows for equipment suppliers and installation firms through to 2030.
