Grid & Energy

France's largest battery storage system goes live with 240 MW capacity and 140 Tesla Megapacks

TagEnergy has commissioned a 240 MW, 480 MWh battery energy storage system in Cernay-les-Reims, northeastern France, now the country's largest operational battery project. The facility uses 140 Tesla Megapack units across three hectares and connects to grid operator RTE's 225 kV network. During its first four months of grid connection before the official 1 October opening, the system delivered 70.5 GWh to the grid and completed 145 full charge and discharge cycles over 125 days.

Why it matters

The project demonstrates utility scale battery deployment velocity in France and validates Tesla Megapack performance in European grid balancing applications. TagEnergy, a Portugal based developer with over 10 GW of renewables and storage projects across six countries, signals growing procurement opportunities for large format battery systems tied to transmission infrastructure.
