Fastned UK chief calls for unified charging approach to fix two tier infrastructure
Tom Hurst, UK managing director of Fastned, has criticised the current public charging landscape as a two tier system, despite EVs reaching 25% of new car sales in 2025 and over 45% of used car sales in February. The UK Government has pledged £4.5 billion to improve conditions for motorists without off street charging, helping expand the public network to almost 90,000 charging devices. Fastned, founded around 2012, operates over 2,666 charging spots across Europe from Scotland to Spain.
Why it matters
The remarks from a major CPO highlight persistent infrastructure inequality even as public funding scales the network, signalling that procurement strategies must address service parity alongside device numbers. Fastned's call for collaboration and consistency suggests operators want clearer policy frameworks to guide investment and site rollout.
