BYD Atto 3 Evo gains bigger battery and rear or all wheel drive in major reengineering
BYD has launched the Atto 3 Evo, a substantially reengineered version of its C segment SUV that replaces the original 201 bhp front wheel drive setup with more powerful rear drive or all wheel drive options, a larger battery for extended range, and updated technology. The changes, introduced three years after the 2023 Atto 3 launch, aim to position the model as one of the most powerful and quickest in its class. BYD has grown from a Chinese unknown to the UK's sixth biggest car brand and the world's largest EV maker since the original Atto 3 debut.
Why it matters
Fleet and charge point operators tracking BYD's rapid market expansion will note the brand's shift from competitive pricing to performance leadership, potentially driving demand for higher power charging infrastructure at destinations serving this segment. The move to rear and all wheel drive configurations with larger batteries signals BYD's intent to compete on capability rather than cost alone in the family SUV market.
