EV Charging

London's public EV charging network triples to 25,500 points in four years with 400kW ultra-rapid sites now live

Transport for London reports the capital's public charging network has grown from approximately 9,000 chargepoints in December 2021 to more than 25,500 as of July 2025, according to its latest infrastructure strategy update. The network now includes 20,629 slow and low-power chargepoints up to 8kW, 3,450 fast chargepoints between 8kW and 22kW, 654 rapid chargepoints from 50kW to 149kW, and 776 ultra-rapid chargepoints of 150kW and above, with new ultra-rapid sites offering up to 400kW capacity. Boroughs including Hammersmith and Fulham, Westminster, Southwark, Wandsworth, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Richmond, Brent, and Merton have led deployment, with lamp column and kerbside installations accounting for more than 80% of the total network.

Why it matters

The near tripling of London's charging estate in under four years signals sustained procurement momentum across borough-led programmes and private hub operators, with the emergence of 400kW ultra-rapid sites indicating a shift towards higher-power infrastructure that may reshape site economics and grid connection requirements for CPOs.
