EV Charging
Welsh Fire and Rescue Services complete 45 EV chargers across 22 sites with £650,000 government grant
The Welsh Government Energy Service awarded £650,000 through its Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure programme to install 45 charging points across 22 fire service sites, completed in March 2025 and operational by April 2025. The rollout supports all three Welsh Fire and Rescue Services in meeting Welsh Government ultra low emission vehicle targets by 2025. The infrastructure includes Welsh language functionality and provides charging for both operational fleet and staff vehicles.
Why it matters
The project demonstrates how public sector fleet operators can secure substantial grant funding to meet statutory emission targets, with the £650,000 award covering site assessments, strategic planning and technical deployment across geographically dispersed emergency service locations. The 22 site rollout offers a procurement model for other blue light services transitioning fleets under government ULEV mandates.
