Welsh Ambulance Service deploys 10 electric and 20 plug-in hybrid vehicles in £22.4 million fleet upgrade

The Welsh Ambulance Service has introduced 10 MAXUS eDELIVER 5 fully electric vehicles and 20 Ford Transit Custom plug-in hybrids to its 800-strong fleet, funded by a £22.4 million Welsh Government investment. The single responder vehicles, used by Advanced Paramedic Practitioners and Cymru High Acuity Response Unit paramedics, are now operational across Wales, including Wrexham, Aberystwyth, Swansea and Cardiff. The deployment supports the Welsh Government's target for a carbon net zero public sector by 2030.

Why it matters

This marks a significant public sector fleet electrification project in Wales, demonstrating how emergency services are integrating EVs into operational fleets with substantial government backing. The rollout offers a procurement model for other ambulance trusts and public bodies planning similar transitions to meet 2030 decarbonisation targets.
