George Developments submits fresh A34 charging hub plan after Green Belt refusal
George Developments Limited has lodged a new planning application with Stafford Borough Council for 31 EV charging bays with solar panels, a substation, picnic areas and a drive-thru restaurant on land off the A34 near Stone. The authority previously refused permission and a planning inspector rejected an appeal last year, both citing significant harm to Green Belt through urban encroachment into continuous green space. The revised scheme aims to provide a rest stop accessible from the M6 and A51, with the developer arguing the charging points will encourage sustainable transport and future-proof the area.
Why it matters
A resubmitted 31-bay charging hub on a contested Green Belt site signals developer persistence in a high-traffic corridor, though past refusals on planning grounds highlight procurement risk for any CPO eyeing the location. The solar-plus-substation design may offer a template for similar roadside hubs if planners can be persuaded on Green Belt policy.
