EV Charging

Norfolk records lowest EV charger crime rate in UK with six incidents over three years

Norfolk reported only six crimes involving EV chargers between 2022 and 2025, making it the safest area in the UK for charging electric vehicles, according to a Northgate Vehicle Hire study using Freedom of Information data. Across 18 police forces that provided data, 494 EV charger related crimes were recorded, with Leicestershire reporting the highest number at 109 incidents, followed by West Mercia with 100 and Nottinghamshire with 85. Suffolk recorded seven cases, the second lowest nationally.

Why it matters

The findings highlight regional security risks that charge point operators and local authorities must address when planning network rollouts, as infrastructure safety directly affects user confidence and site viability. Areas with higher crime rates may require additional security measures or design changes, influencing capital and operational budgets for new installations.
