North Yorkshire Council allocates £129,500 to replace 32 faulty EV chargers installed in 2023

North Yorkshire Council is spending £129,500 to replace 32 electric vehicle charging points across Bedale, Northallerton, Stokesley and Thirsk that were installed in 2023 by the former Hambleton District Council. The original installer, EVS Energy Ltd, went into liquidation, leaving the council without user manuals needed to transfer operations to another contractor. The council has acknowledged problems including non-compliant equipment installations and arrangements involving multiple subcontractors for management, operation and maintenance.

Why it matters

The case highlights procurement risks when installers lack financial stability or fail to provide proper documentation and handover processes, leaving local authorities unable to operate or transfer charging infrastructure. Councils procuring EV charging work may need stronger contractual safeguards around equipment compliance, operator insolvency provisions and clear asset transfer protocols to avoid costly replacement programmes.

RAW Charging opens eight bay ultra-rapid hub at Hinchingbrooke Business Park in Huntingdon

RAW Charging has activated a new charging hub at Hinchingbrooke Business Park, Kingfisher Way, Huntingdon, featuring eight bays: two 50kW rapid chargers and six 150kW ultra-rapid units. The site, located near the A141 and A1307 junction, supports contactless payment and is offering free charging to RAW Rewards members on 30 September to 1 October 2026. RAW describes the hub as one of the largest in the region, targeting local businesses, commuters and visitors.

Why it matters

The deployment adds significant rapid and ultra-rapid capacity in a business park setting, reflecting RAW's focus on leisure, hospitality and retail locations with high dwell time. The scale and roadside proximity also signal growing competition for commuter and fleet charging in regional hubs outside major motorway service areas.
