Lime commits £886,857 to fund 586 e-bike parking bays across nine London boroughs

Lime has allocated £886,857 to nine London boroughs, including Greenwich, Lambeth and Hackney, to create or expand 586 shared e-bike parking bays in response to pavement crowding. The operator says it has now helped fund more than 3,400 parking bays across London as shared e-bikes account for one in 10 of the capital's 1 million daily cycling trips, according to Transport for London figures. Lime has also opened a fresh funding round for councils seeking to add more parking capacity.

Why it matters

The investment shows how operators are funding street infrastructure to support fleet growth, creating procurement opportunities for councils that need parking hardware and installation services. With shared e-bikes now representing 10% of London's daily cycling trips, the model may inform how other cities structure operator contributions to public realm works.

Citroën targets £12,750 price for 2CV EV concept due in 2028

Citroën has unveiled a 2CV concept at the Paris show previewing a production EV aimed at a €15,000 (£12,750) price point when it launches in two years. The model will use an all new electric platform distinct from the Smart Car architecture underpinning the current C3 and Stellantis's STLA One platform, designed to exploit EU E-car regulations incentivising small EVs. Citroën is targeting a kerb weight of one tonne with a small battery, with the existing e-C3 Urban Range variant's 30kWh lithium iron battery offering a technical reference point.

Why it matters

A sub £13,000 EV entering the UK market in 2028 could significantly expand the addressable customer base for charging infrastructure, particularly in rural and suburban areas where cost sensitive buyers have been priced out of electrification. The lightweight, small battery specification suggests lower power charging requirements that may influence future network planning and site economics for destination and workplace charging operators.

Policy & Market

UK cuts home charging VAT to 0% but leaves public charging at 20%, widening driveway divide

From 1 October, domestic electricity VAT in the UK dropped to 0%, cutting home EV charging costs by an estimated £40 per year for drivers with off street parking. Public charging remains subject to 20% VAT, prompting char.gy CEO John Lewis to call the disparity unfair and urge Labour to reduce public charging costs. The policy change, linked to Andy Burnham's initiatives, has been criticised for widening the so called driveway divide between EV owners with and without private parking.

Why it matters

The VAT gap between home and public charging may slow uptake among drivers reliant on public infrastructure, pressuring charge point operators to absorb cost differences or risk losing customers. Policymakers and CPOs face renewed calls to level the playing field, which could influence future subsidy design and site economics for on street and destination charging.
