Procurement & pipeline

The Rivian Adventure Network has grown from five sites in 2022 to 157 locations with over 1,000 DC fast charging stalls across the United States, making it one of the largest proprietary networks in the country. Each site hosts three to sixteen stalls delivering up to 300 kilowatts, capable of adding roughly 150 miles of range in 20 minutes to Rivian vehicles. The network, originally exclusive to Rivian owners, is now open to nearly all electric vehicles on the road.

Why it matters: The network's rapid expansion and shift to public access creates new competitive pressure on established CPOs and signals a manufacturer led infrastructure model that targets underserved outdoor and rural locations rather than highway corridors. Procurement teams evaluating site partnerships or equipment supply should note Rivian's focus on remote, adventure oriented locations that differ from typical Electrify America or Tesla Supercharger deployment strategies.

Rollout pace

Summer Fun Inc. will shut four Tesla Superchargers in Gorham, New Hampshire on 25 October after electricity bills reached over $32,500 against net revenue of almost $15,900 through mid August, despite charging 69 cents per kilowatt hour. The site, which opened in May, is the only Tesla Supercharger location north of the White Mountains and serves tourists travelling between Canada and the coast. The closure comes as New Hampshire prepares another round of public charging incentives, with the application deadline falling on 21 August.

Why it matters: The case illustrates how retail electricity tariffs can render otherwise well located charging infrastructure commercially unviable, even with premium per kilowatt hour pricing. For charge point operators and site hosts evaluating rural or tourist corridor deployments, the Gorham example underscores the need to model utility costs against realistic utilisation before committing capital.
