California Helix water district deploys 6 MW managed charging depot for fleet and emergency vehicles

Helix Water District in El Cajon, California has installed a managed charging system at its operations centre that will deliver nearly 6 MW of total EV charging capacity once complete. The project, using Better Fleet's software solution, supports the district's full transition to zero emission vehicles and will also serve emergency and critical service vehicles across the county. Better Fleet CEO Dan Hilson provided detailed responses explaining how the system maintains operational readiness for the mission critical public utility.

Why it matters

The 6 MW depot demonstrates how managed charging software can enable large scale fleet electrification for utilities and shared emergency services without compromising reliability. The dual use model, serving both the water district and county first responders, offers a template for maximising infrastructure investment in public sector charging deployments.

WiTricity launches 600W wireless charging pad for golf carts and low speed EVs

WiTricity has introduced the MR/1 600W inductive charging pad for golf carts and low speed electric vehicles used at golf courses and retirement communities. The plugless system sits below the vehicle and connects to a standard 110V to 120V outlet, eliminating the need for manual plug in after each use. WiTricity also offers a 900W variant for higher duty commercial fleets.

Why it matters

The product targets a niche but high volume segment where daily charging compliance is operationally critical, offering procurement teams at golf courses and senior living facilities a lower cost wireless option alongside the existing 900W commercial system. Inductive pads reduce trip hazards and labour associated with manual plug in routines across large fleets.
