Palm Springs airport completes 80 charger installation, third largest in Southern California

Palm Springs International Airport has finished installing 80 electric vehicle chargers in parking Lot B, making it the third largest airport EV charging array in Southern California behind Los Angeles International and San Diego International airports. The ChargePoint network chargers will open to the public once final testing and commissioning are complete, with drivers paying for electricity used plus a $1 flat fee per session, estimated at $10 to $20 per use or up to $30 during peak hours between 5 and 9 p.m. Staff told the Airport Commission they are still determining how many spaces to dedicate to EV charging and will monitor usage daily, with signs designating EV only spaces that allow for citations under California law.

Why it matters

The 80 charger deployment demonstrates how airports are becoming significant EV charging hubs, with Palm Springs now ranking third in the region for scale. The ChargePoint partnership and usage based pricing model, combined with daily monitoring plans, offers a template for other airport operators planning similar rollouts.

New York opens $35 million Charge Ready NY programme for public sector Level 2 charger deployment

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced $35 million in funding for public sector entities to install and operate Level 2 electric vehicle chargers across New York State. The Charge Ready NY Large Public Sector Project programme, administered by NYSERDA, will award between $1 million and $15 million per project to state agencies, local governments and university systems installing chargers on publicly owned land for general public use.

Why it matters

The competitive programme creates a substantial procurement pipeline for Level 2 infrastructure suppliers and installers working with public sector clients in New York. With individual awards reaching up to $15 million, the scheme signals significant contract opportunities for CPOs and contractors capable of delivering large scale public charging deployments.
