ChargePoint reports charging sessions up 34% in 2025 as utilisation outpaces infrastructure growth
ChargePoint's 2026 Charging Forward Report shows charging sessions on its network rose 34% in 2025, against a 16% increase in vehicles on the road, with more than 1 million drivers now using ChargePoint monthly. Charger use grew faster than the addition of new ports, a trend the company expects to continue in 2026. Commercial trucks and vans are transitioning to electric powertrains, with infrastructure supporting these vehicles expected to grow through 2030 and beyond.
Why it matters
Higher utilisation per port signals tighter capacity and underscores the need for strategic site planning and energy management in procurement pipelines. Commercial electrification will require significant infrastructure investment, creating opportunities for CPOs and fleet depot operators to scale higher powered charging networks.
US court restores 5 billion dollar NEVI charging programme after Trump cancellation attempt
The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure programme, a 5 billion dollar federal scheme to build fast charging stations on US interstate highways, has been restored by court order after President Trump attempted to cancel it in January 2025. By July 2024, 61 NEVI funded charging ports were operational and another 2,500 were in the pipeline, with all 50 states having submitted plans and eight states already installing stations. The programme, funded through the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to create a coordinated national network of fast charging sites in priority locations.
Why it matters
The court ruling secures continued federal funding for a major US charging infrastructure buildout, keeping thousands of planned ports on track and maintaining procurement opportunities for CPOs and contractors already engaged in state level NEVI projects. The legal uncertainty around federal programmes may still affect project timelines and investor confidence in US charging deployments.
