Colorado awards over $23 million for 270 fast-charging ports at 35 sites

The Colorado Energy Office and Colorado Department of Transportation have awarded more than $23 million in grants to install 270 fast-charging ports across 35 locations statewide, increasing the existing network by 16 per cent. The funding comes from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program and Colorado's Community Access Enterprise as part of the Direct Current Fast-Charging Plazas initiative, with projects expected to complete within two years. The programme has now allocated nearly $71.8 million in total to support around 795 new fast-charging ports, prioritising disproportionately impacted areas.

Why it matters

The 16 per cent network expansion signals substantial near-term procurement opportunities for charge-point operators and equipment suppliers across 35 Colorado sites. NEVI-backed projects typically require compliance with federal standards, shaping technical specifications and vendor eligibility for the two-year build-out.

New York City opens 10 fast chargers at Forest Park, its largest public EV charging site

The city's Department of Citywide Administrative Services and NYC Parks opened a 10 fast charger station at Forest Park on 22 September, the largest city operated public charging site in New York's five boroughs. The project received $2.7 million from DCAS and $472,000 from Con Edison through the New York Power Ready programme. The chargers operate 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at 30 cents per kilowatt hour off peak and 35 cents per kilowatt hour during peak times, with a 60 minute limit and two accessible chargers included.

Why it matters

The launch brings DCAS's public charging network to 26 chargers, with 34 more planned over 18 months, signalling modest but steady municipal procurement as New York expands access beyond its 451 fast chargers used primarily for fleet operations. The Con Edison co funding model and accessible design requirements may shape future city tender specifications.

PowerUp America wins four NEVI awards to build DC fast chargers in North Carolina

US charge point operator PowerUp America has secured four funding awards from the North Carolina Department of Transportation's NEVI programme to deploy public DC fast charging stations in Chocowinity, Plymouth, Wadesboro and Whiteville. Kempower will supply the charging equipment, with stations expected to open in mid to late 2027. PowerUp America will handle development, design, permitting, construction and commissioning, working with NCDOT, Kempower, utility providers and local partners.

Why it matters

The awards demonstrate continued NEVI programme deployment along state transportation corridors, offering procurement insight into multi-site rollouts that pair federal funding with established CPO and OEM partnerships. The mid to late 2027 timeline provides a benchmark for NEVI project delivery schedules from award to commissioning.

Voltpost adds 14 lamppost EV charge points across three New York communities

American startup Voltpost has installed three dual port chargers in Albany, three in Saratoga Springs and one in Cold Springs, bringing 14 new charging ports online this week. The pole mounted units tap into existing utility pole electrical supply, avoiding trenching and concrete work, though output is capped at 9.6 kilowatts. Voltpost is also offering free charging at its MADE Bush Terminal site in Brooklyn during Climate Week.

Why it matters

The rollout demonstrates a lower cost installation model for urban curbside charging, relevant to councils and CPOs seeking to expand networks without heavy civil works. Limited power output suits overnight residential use rather than rapid turnover commercial sites.
