Pitkin County signs contract for 400 kW dual station charger at River Park Center and negotiates Buttermilk site takeover
Pitkin County Public Works has contracted for two charging stations at River Park Center delivering 400 kW shared across four plugs, one station reserved for county staff and one for public use. The county is also negotiating ownership transfer of four slow chargers with eight plugs at Buttermilk, originally installed by Holy Cross Energy, which will continue providing software subscriptions for five years. Public Works Director Scott Mattice told commissioners the Buttermilk units serve commuters parking for the day but cannot be expanded due to transformer capacity limits.
Why it matters
The dual approach shows how local authorities balance employee fleet needs with public access, while the Buttermilk handover illustrates the operational complexity of transferring legacy assets between utilities and municipalities. Contractors and software vendors should note the five year subscription commitment accompanying the ownership change.
