Leapmotor targets South African growth in 2027 through Stellantis dealer network, with Egypt next in Africa
By Eve
Leapmotor International CEO Danilo Annese told an interview at the Paris Motor Show that South Africa offers significant potential, but the young brand must establish its value proposition with local customers rather than copy its European approach. The company plans to grow its South African business in 2027 using Stellantis's local operations and dealers, without building a separate company-owned network. Stellantis currently runs 34 dealerships nationwide and plans to expand to about 48 outlets over the next two years, with Egypt next on Leapmotor's African expansion list.
Why it matters
A further Chinese EV brand scaling in South Africa through an established dealer footprint points to growing vehicle parc and charging demand, and to more OEM partners for CPOs and site hosts to engage. The planned dealer expansion from 34 to about 48 outlets may also create additional locations for charging installations and partnerships.

Leapmotor B03X makes Malaysian debut at ACE 2026 ahead of expected 1H 2027 local launch
The right-hand drive Leapmotor B03X, a B-segment SUV, appeared in Malaysia for the first time at paultan.org's Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2026, reported on 31 October 2026. It is set to be locally assembled (CKD) in Gurun, Kedah, with a launch expected in the first half of 2027. European versions offer 39.8 kWh (292 km WLTP) and 53 kWh (382 km WLTP) batteries, with maximum charging of 133 kW DC (30% to 80% in around 16 minutes) and 11 kW AC, and a 197 PS/200 Nm front motor.
Why it matters
Local assembly of another affordable EV points to further growth in Malaysia's EV parc from 2027, adding demand for both AC and DC charging. A 133 kW DC peak and 11 kW AC limit are useful reference points when planning charger power levels and dwell times at sites.
Stellantis begins producing Leapmotor B10 SUV at its Zaragoza plant in Spain
Stellantis has started production of Leapmotor vehicles at its Zaragoza plant, according to an Oct. 16 press release. The B10 SUV, offered in Europe as an all-electric model and as a gasoline range-extended series hybrid, will use spare capacity at the site and be sold through Stellantis' dealership network across the wider European region. Stellantis owns 51% of the Leapmotor International joint venture, launched in 2023, with Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co. holding the other 49%, according to a May 2026 press release.
Why it matters
Spanish assembly could help the B10 qualify under the EU's "Made in Europe" rules, which may strengthen its position in European fleet and dealer channels and add to future charging demand. Procurement teams and CPOs should factor in a growing volume of Leapmotor EVs and range-extended hybrids on European roads.
Camouflaged Toyota Corolla Cross, thought to be an EV, spotted on the road ahead of an expected 2027 debut
Electrek reports that a disguised prototype believed to be an electric Toyota Corolla Cross was seen driving near the automaker's European headquarters and research centre, with the images first published by China's Autohome. Electrek says the next Corolla generation will be the first to use Toyota's new multipathway platform, which is meant to support electric, hybrid, petrol and other powertrains, and that an electric version could have one or two motors and a range of at least 250 miles. Toyota has not confirmed battery or powertrain details or a US sales plan, while Nikkei reports production of the new generation is planned for 2028 through the FAW Toyota Motor joint venture in China.
Why it matters
A battery electric Corolla on a multipathway platform would put a very high volume nameplate into the EV market from around 2027, which could widen the base of mainstream drivers needing public and home charging. Details on battery size, charging speed and regional availability remain unconfirmed, so CPOs and procurement teams should treat any demand planning as provisional.
