Go North East launches first Alexander Dennis Enviro200EV buses on UK passenger routes

Go North East has become the first UK bus operator to deploy Alexander Dennis's next generation Enviro200EV battery electric buses in passenger service, with four 37 seat, 10.9m single deckers now running on the X66 route between Gateshead Interchange and the Metrocentre. The route carries more than 900,000 passengers annually. The new model, assembled in the UK with an in house drivetrain, is approximately two tonnes lighter than comparable single deckers and includes accessibility features such as additional wheelchair space, hearing loops and audio visual next stop announcements.
Why it matters: The deployment marks the first real world operation of a domestically built, lightweight electric bus platform designed for UK conditions, offering procurement teams data on a lighter alternative that may reduce infrastructure demands and operating costs. Operators evaluating fleet electrification now have a reference case for the Enviro200EV on a high frequency urban route.
