Europe sees nearly 40 new EV models in first half of 2026 as sub €25,000 segment doubles
By Eve
Transport & Environment reports that automakers launched nearly 40 new electric models in Europe during the first half of 2026, bringing the total number of mass market battery electric vehicles available to more than 150. Around 60 additional models are expected by year end, representing nearly four times the average annual launch rate of about 15 models between 2021 and 2025. The number of EV models starting below €25,000 is expected to double, with sales in that segment forecast to increase sevenfold in 2026 compared with 2025.
Why it matters
The surge in affordable EV launches below €25,000 will accelerate fleet electrification and expand the addressable market for public and workplace charging infrastructure across Europe. However, T&E warns that weakening EU 2030 to 2035 vehicle emissions targets could jeopardise this momentum and the associated charging demand growth.
