Amazon takes delivery of 27 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks in Germany, part of 50 unit order

By Eve

Amazon has received 27 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 battery electric trucks in Germany, with the remaining 23 of a 50 unit order due by end of 2026, according to a 22 September 2026 report. The deployment forms part of a broader contract signed in early 2025 for more than 200 eActros trucks across Europe, supported by over 1 billion euros investment in electrifying Amazon's European transport network, including more than 400 million euros for German operations. The rollout includes installation of hundreds of heavy duty EV chargers at European facilities, with the eActros 600 offering 621 kWh capacity across three LFP battery packs and up to 560 kilometre range at 40 ton gross train weight.

Why it matters

The scale of Amazon's charging infrastructure build out, spanning hundreds of heavy duty units across European sites, signals major procurement opportunities for charge point operators and installation contractors. The phased 50 unit German delivery and wider 200 plus truck European contract demonstrate sustained demand for depot charging solutions capable of supporting 621 kWh battery packs and middle mile logistics operations.

Mercedes-Benz BEV sales jump 61% year on year to record 68,400 units in Q3 2026

Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 68,400 battery electric vehicles in Q3 2026, up 61% from Q3 2025 and 29% from the previous quarter, marking the highest quarterly BEV sales in company history. The BEV share of total Mercedes-Benz Cars sales reached 16.8%, up 7.2 percentage points year on year, with electrified vehicles (including plug-in hybrids) accounting for 25% of sales. Growth was driven by Europe and North America, offsetting a 6% decline in China where the Group faced challenging market conditions.

Why it matters

Accelerating BEV adoption by a major premium OEM signals growing demand for public and workplace charging infrastructure, particularly in Europe and North America where Mercedes saw strongest growth. The 16.8% BEV share and rising electrified vehicle mix indicate expanding opportunities for CPOs to secure fleet and dealership charging contracts with premium automotive brands.

Tesla enables bidirectional charging for new Model 3 and Model Y orders in US with Powerwall 3

Tesla has extended its PowerShare home backup feature to new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles ordered from 1 October 2026 onwards in the US and Puerto Rico, previously available only on the Cybertruck. The capability requires a Powerwall 3 home battery and compatible charger, with Tesla stating the setup can extend home backup by over two days using the vehicle's battery.

Why it matters

Proton captures 50% of Malaysia's September 2026 EV market as registrations fall 31.7%

Malaysia registered 6,029 battery electric vehicles in September 2026, down 31.7% from August's 8,833 units, with Proton accounting for 3,016 registrations or 50% of the market, according to road transport department data reported on 11 October 2026. Proton's e.MAS 5 recorded 2,490 units and the e.MAS 7 added 526, bringing the carmaker's year to date total to 24,857 units. Tesla held second place with 703 units, down 39.7%, followed by BYD with 615 units, up 7.7%, and Zeekr in fourth with 445 units, up 12.7%.

Why it matters

The 50% market share held by a single domestic manufacturer signals potential concentration in Malaysia's charging infrastructure demand, with implications for network planning and site selection. The 31.7% month on month decline in overall registrations may affect near term charging deployment schedules and utilisation forecasts for operators in the market.
