Andhra Pradesh launches energy audits and PPP EV-charging framework across urban local bodies

The Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department in Andhra Pradesh has issued twin reforms approved by the Council of Ministers on 14 May 2026, mandating energy conservation measures and public private partnership proposals for EV charging and shared e-mobility services across Urban Local Bodies. A statewide energy audit will first cover Municipal Corporations and Selection Grade Municipalities to identify inefficiencies in street lighting, municipal buildings, water and sewerage pumping stations, vehicle fleets and rooftop solar. Municipal offices must maintain air conditioning at 24°C, eliminate day burning lights, convert remaining non LED fittings and prepare rooftop solar deployment plans for eligible buildings, with a Nodal Officer tracking monthly savings.
