Cahill Transport joins Victoria's AU$1.5 million electric heavy vehicle trial as first participant

By Eve

Cahill Transport has been named the first freight operator in Victoria's two year AU$1.5 million (US$1.05 million) Electric Heavy Vehicle Trial, run by the Victorian government and the Victorian Transport Association. The programme will test zero emission trucks, including the Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 supplied by Daimler Truck Australia Pacific, in real world commercial operations from Cahill's Laverton North base. The trial will collect data on vehicle performance, charging infrastructure, energy consumption, maintenance requirements and driver training.

Why it matters: The trial provides procurement teams and fleet operators with real world performance data on electric heavy vehicles and charging infrastructure requirements for commercial freight operations. Daimler Truck Australia Pacific's coordination role signals OEM engagement in supporting early adopter trials that can inform future fleet electrification tenders.
