Australian electric freight start-up New Energy Transport signs Unilever as first customer, takes delivery of Volvo prime mover
By Eve
New Energy Transport has received its first heavy electric prime mover from Volvo, the first of 11 units planned for rollout over the next 12 months. Unilever Australia will use the vehicle for deliveries from its Ingleburn distribution centre to customer sites across Sydney. The truck is the first delivered under a Volvo Financial Services arrangement with the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
Why it matters: The deal demonstrates a commercial model combining vehicle supply, financing and operational support for electric freight, potentially lowering barriers for fleet electrification. Volvo last week unveiled the first 10 electric prime movers built at its Australian factory, signalling local manufacturing capacity for heavy electric vehicles.
