SUN Mobility has launched a modular multi-battery swapping solution for electric buses, demonstrated on the Tata Starbus EV platform at Prawaas 5.0 in India. The unveiling was inaugurated by Amrendra Kishore Singh, Director at the Ministry of Heavy Industries, alongside representatives from Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles. SUN Mobility currently operates more than 1,900 Swap Points across over 23 cities, having completed more than 70 million battery swaps supporting over 2.1 billion electric kilometres and avoiding more than 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Why it matters: The modular swapping platform offers an alternative to plug-in charging infrastructure for bus fleet operators, potentially reducing downtime and upfront capital costs. With government backing and an established network of over 1,900 swap points, the solution may influence procurement specifications for urban transit authorities evaluating operational models for electric bus deployment.
