BYD unveils DENZA Z electric supercar with 1,582hp and nine minute charge time at Goodwood

BYD has launched the DENZA Z, a fully electric supercar producing 1,582 horsepower from a triple motor setup, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The range includes a hardtop coupe starting at £142,900, a convertible spider, and a Racing variant that accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 1.96 seconds with a top speed of 217mph. The car uses a 76kWh second generation Blade Battery compatible with BYD's FLASH Charging technology, enabling a 10 to 97 per cent charge in nine minutes on a 1,500kW charger, though range is limited to around 254 miles WLTP for the Coupe.
Why it matters: The DENZA Z's requirement for 1,500kW ultra rapid charging infrastructure highlights the emerging demand for extreme power delivery in the premium EV segment. For charge point operators and site developers, this signals a potential new tier of charging capability beyond today's typical 350kW rapid chargers, particularly at prestige locations and motorsport venues.
