California bill demands public pricing from truck makers to access state zero emission incentives

California Senate Bill 1213, authored by State Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes, passed the Environmental Quality Committee with a 7 to 0 vote and would require manufacturers to publish MSRP for all zero emission truck models sold in California to remain eligible for the state's Hybrid and Zero Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project and Clean Transportation Programs. Medium and heavy duty truck pricing is typically negotiated privately with wide variation depending on customer, dealer, volume and incentive structures, making it difficult to assess whether rebate programmes reduce buyer costs or inflate manufacturer margins.
