Delhi-NCR considers mandatory 100 per cent EV sales by 2030 under CAQM proposal

The Commission for Air Quality Management is consulting manufacturers and government on a phased mandate requiring all new vehicle sales in Delhi-NCR to be electric by 1 April 2030. The proposal sets rising annual EV targets for automakers, with new taxis required to be electric from 1 April 2027 and new buses from 1 April 2028. An expert committee chaired by Professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala of IIT Madras is reviewing the plan alongside a phase-down of older Bharat Stage emission categories.
Why it matters: A 2030 EV-only mandate in one of India's largest urban markets would accelerate charging infrastructure tenders and force CPOs to scale depot and public networks ahead of taxi and bus deadlines. Procurement teams face compressed timelines to secure sites and grid capacity before the 2027 and 2028 commercial vehicle cut-offs.
