Chaevi secures all four categories in South Korean government EV charging subsidy programme

By Eve

South Korean charging operator Chaevi has won qualification in all four categories of the government's EV charging facility subsidy programme, covering both network operation and hardware manufacturing for fast, medium speed and slow chargers. The selection, overseen by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, marks Chaevi's ninth consecutive year as a designated operator and its first in newly introduced manufacturer categories, allowing participation in subsidies through 2027. Chaevi manufactures 12 charger models with output capacities ranging from 50 kilowatts to 350 kilowatts.

Why it matters

The clean sweep positions Chaevi to capture subsidy backed deployment across all charging speed segments in South Korea through 2027, giving the firm a competitive edge in both hardware sales and network contracts. The government's new split evaluation system for operators and manufacturers raises the bar for future subsidy access, favouring vertically integrated players with proven technology and operational track records.

Seattle opens applications for 200 curbside Level 2 chargers targeting apartment areas by 2030

Seattle City Light is accepting resident applications for up to 200 new curbside Level 2 EV chargers to be installed from fall 2027 through 2030, prioritising multifamily housing areas with limited existing charging. The city will review applications and select locations in batches of 40 to 50 sites, with design and permitting starting spring 2027 and each site requiring approximately two weeks of construction. Seattle already operates 58 chargers from an earlier pilot programme.

Why it matters

The resident led application process and phased procurement model offers a replicable framework for cities targeting underserved multifamily housing, with clear timelines for design, permitting and installation that CPOs and contractors can plan around. The batch selection approach creates predictable tender windows for equipment suppliers and installation firms through to 2030.
