Chaevi wins Korea Expressway tender to install 131 fast chargers at 29 highway rest stops

Chaevi, Korea's largest fast-charging operator, has been named preferred bidder for the Korea Expressway Corp.'s 2026 EV charging station construction project. The rollout will place 118 200 kW chargers and 13 multichargers across 29 highway rest stops spanning Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeolla, Daegu, Gyeongsang and Busan regions. Combined with its 2025 and 2026 projects, Chaevi will deploy 167 NACS-equipped chargers at highway rest stops, representing 62 per cent of its chargers under both programmes and offering Tesla drivers direct access without CCS1 adapters.
Why it matters: The award consolidates Chaevi's position as Korea's dominant highway charging provider and signals a strategic shift towards NACS infrastructure, which may influence connector standards and interoperability planning for CPOs and OEMs operating in the Korean market. The 200 kW, 250 amp specification also sets a performance benchmark for future highway tenders in the region.
