Coventry leads UK charge point growth with 12-fold rise since 2020, Stellantis study shows

Coventry's public EV charging network expanded from 203 chargers in 2020 to 2,578 in 2025, the fastest growth among UK cities, according to research by Stellantis and You. Birmingham saw an 11-fold increase from 103 to 1,264 chargers, and Swansea grew eightfold from 37 to 316 chargers over the same period. London has the most chargers overall with more than 24,000, whilst Dundee leads on accessibility with 222 chargers per 100,000 people; Southampton ranked lowest with 119 chargers and just 21 rapid units at 50kW or above.
Why it matters: The data reveals which local authorities have scaled infrastructure fastest, helping CPOs and funders identify high-growth markets and underserved cities such as Southampton and Derry. Wide variation in charger density and rapid-charger availability signals uneven procurement activity and potential gaps for new tenders.
