Delhi joins Centre's e-bus payment security scheme
By Eve
Delhi has enrolled in the central government's payment security mechanism for electric buses, a scheme designed to protect operators from delayed or defaulted payments by state transport undertakings. The move follows similar commitments by other Indian states and aims to de-risk private investment in public e-bus fleets under the Centre's procurement programmes.
Why it matters: Payment security is a critical barrier to scaling e-bus deployments in India; Delhi's participation signals improved bankability for operators bidding on the capital's tenders. The scheme may accelerate contract closures and fleet rollouts across participating states by reducing financial risk for private bus suppliers and charge-point operators.
