Delhi faces 27,179 EV charger shortfall as NCR cities lag on public infrastructure

Delhi has 8,998 EV charging points against a requirement of 36,177, leaving a gap of 27,179 units. The city plans to reach 16,070 chargers by year end, though a shortfall above 20,000 will persist. Neighbouring NCR districts show similar deficits: Gurgaon and Faridabad have zero public chargers against needs of 20 and 26 respectively, Noida has 69 versus 150 required, and Ghaziabad has 126 against 450 needed. Action plans submitted to the Commission for Air Quality Management target over 7,300 new charging points across Delhi and NCR by December 2025.
Why it matters: The 302 per cent shortfall signals urgent procurement opportunities for charge point operators and equipment suppliers across the National Capital Region. With most of Delhi's 7,000 planned installations under the transport department and 100 points planned in Ghaziabad by year end, contractors face near term tenders to close infrastructure gaps in India's capital zone.
